Investigation and comparison of calcium aluminate phases obtained by three methods of sol-gel (with EDTA), sol-gel (without EDTA) and solid-phase synthesis

Authors

Abstract:

In this study, we investigate calcium aluminate phases that were prepared by three different solid phase synthesis methods and a sol-gel method (with and without EDTA). The purpose of this study is to compare these three methods in terms of achieving higher purity, optimal phase and complexity in the production of the final product. Comparing the results, we found that the sol-gel method is more problematic than the solid-state synthesis. The phases prepared are: (CA), (C12A7), (C3A) and (CA2). In the sol-gel method, we have explored two different innovative regimens with EDTA. The results on the purity of the resulting phases and the effect of adding EDTA showed that, in general, the addition of EDTA leads to better purity. Quantitative x-ray diffraction analysis was used to determine the percentage of prepared calcium aluminate phases. The CA2 phase achieved 100% purity in the first preparation method in all three ways.

Stoichiometric hydroxyapatite obtained by precipitation and sol gel processes

Synthesis, characterization, of Fluorohydroxyapatite nanopowders by sol-gel processing

In this work, sol-gel processing was used to synthesize the fluorohydroxyapatite (nano-FHA, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2−xFx) nanopowders. The advantages of the sol-gel method over other methods are precise control of composition, low processing temperature, and better homogeneity. Calcium nitrate tetrahydrate, phosphorous pentoxide and Tetrabuthylammon...

Preparation and Characterization of WO3 Electrochromic Films Obtained by the Sol-Gel Process

Tungsten trioxide (WO3) films have been coated on indium thin oxide (ITO) conductive glass substrate, using aqueous solution of peroxotungstic acid (PTA) by the sol-gel dip coating method. X-ray diffractometery (XRD) analysis confirmed monoclinic and triclinic structure for the film and powdered WO3 respectively. Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) exhibit...

Physical and Magnetic Properties Comparison of Cobalt Ferrite Nanopowder Using Sol-gel and Sonochemical Methods

Cobalt ferrite or CoFe2O4 has unique physical and magnetic properties depend on its synthesis method. The application of cobalt ferrite as nanomedicine material become more interesting, however analysis on physical and magnetic properties based on synthesis method have not been discussed. The cobalt ferrite in this research was synthesised using two different methods: the ...
